An internationally recognized advocate for biomedical research, she founded the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in 1970 and NDRI (The National Disease Research Interchange) in 1980. NDRI provides human cells, tissues and organs to biomedical researchers in every field, including cancers, rare diseases, and HIV/AIDS. She also created the Human Biological Data Interchange, a worldwide database of people who are available for genetic research.
